背景信息 Zinc finger family member 788, pseudogene (ZNF788P) is a non-protein-coding genomic remnant derived from an ancestral zinc finger protein gene. As a pseudogene, it is not expected to produce a functional protein; however, it shares sequence homology with the KRAB/zinc finger transcription factor family, which typically regulates DNA binding and transcriptional activity. Despite its classification, ZNF788P may possess regulatory potential at the RNA level by participating in competing endogenous RNA (ceRNA) networks or other gene-pseudogene-miRNA interactions. These networks can modulate the expression of functional genes by sequestering shared microRNAs, thereby influencing various cellular pathways. While its specific biological roles are still being elucidated, ZNF788P represents an evolutionary vestige with the potential to fine-tune the transcriptional landscape through non-coding mechanisms.
