Dynein regulatory complex subunit 10 (IQCD) is a critical component of the nexin-dynein regulatory complex (N-DRC), which is essential for the motility of cilia and flagella. It functions by maintaining the structural alignment and integrity of the axonemal 9+2 microtubule arrangement, regulating the sliding and bending motions driven by dynein motors. Through its protein-binding activity, IQCD coordinates the functions of outer and inner dynein arms, preventing excessive doublet splaying and supporting the oscillatory bending required for effective ciliary movement. Although deficiencies in other N-DRC components are linked to primary ciliary dyskinesia, there are currently no established human diseases directly attributed to mutations in the IQCD protein itself. |
