MRG domain binding protein (MRGBP) is a nuclear subunit of the NuA4/TRRAP-TIP60 histone acetyltransferase complex, which regulates chromatin structure and gene expression by acetylating histones H4 and H2A. Through its role in the NuA4 complex, MRGBP participates in transcriptional programs related to cell proliferation, DNA repair, and apoptosis. It specifically modulates DNA double-strand break repair by limiting DNA-end resection, thereby restraining homologous recombination and non-homologous end joining to maintain genome stability. Clinically, MRGBP is overexpressed in several malignancies and has been proposed as a prognostic biomarker in head and neck squamous cell carcinoma, where high expression levels correlate with poor clinical outcomes. |
