| 背景信息 | Carbohydrate sulfotransferase 1 (CHST1) is an enzyme encoded by the CHST1 gene in humans. It belongs to the keratin sulfotransferase family and is crucial for the sulfation of keratan sulfate proteoglycans, such as lumican and keratocan, which are major components of the cornea and play a significant role in corneal transparency. The enzyme specifically catalyzes the sulfation of keratan sulfate, with no activity towards chondroitin. CHST1 is expressed in various tissues, including the brain, cornea, and skeletal muscle. Undersulfated keratan sulfate is associated with macular corneal dystrophy, highlighting the importance of CHST1 in maintaining proper keratan sulfate function. |
