背景信息Hematopoietic prostaglandin D synthase (HPGDS) is a bifunctional enzyme encoded by the HPGDS gene located on chromosome 4, primarily involved in the conversion of prostaglandin H2 (PGH2) to prostaglandin D2 (PGD2), a crucial mediator in various physiological processes including smooth muscle contraction and immune responses. This enzyme exhibits glutathione transferase activity, utilizing glutathione as a cofactor, and plays a significant role in modulating inflammatory responses, particularly through its anti-inflammatory effects in conditions such as asthma and allergic reactions. Variants of HPGDS have been linked to differential disease susceptibilities, including colorectal cancer risk, highlighting its potential as a therapeutic target. Additionally, HPGDS is expressed in various tissues, particularly in mast cells and antigen-presenting cells, suggesting its involvement in immune regulation and tissue homeostasis.
