It is essential for protein quality control and regulating key cellular pathways, including DNA repair and apoptosis. UBE4B negatively regulates p53 and p73 levels by facilitating their ubiquitination, often in concert with MDM2. This activity suppresses apoptotic responses and influences cell survival. In oncology, UBE4B is a candidate tumor suppressor in neuroblastoma; its deletion is associated with 1p36 deletion syndrome and poor prognosis, whereas its dysregulation can drive oncogenic processes in other contexts. |
