| 背景信息 | Geranylgeranyl diphosphate synthase 1 (GGPS1) is an enzyme encoded by the GGPS1 gene, which belongs to the prenyltransferase family. It catalyzes the synthesis of geranylgeranyl diphosphate (GGPP) from farnesyl diphosphate and isopentenyl diphosphate. GGPP is crucial for the C20-prenylation of proteins and the regulation of a nuclear hormone receptor. The protein has a molecular weight of approximately 34,871 Da and a length of 300 amino acids in humans. Mutations in both copies of the GGPS1 gene have been associated with a syndrome characterized by muscular dystrophy, hearing loss, and ovarian insufficiency. |
