| 背景信息 | Myeloperoxidase (MPO) is a heme-containing, cationic heterotetramer synthesized by neutrophil and monocyte precursors. It serves as a critical component of the innate immune system's host defense mechanism. During the respiratory burst of activated neutrophils, MPO catalyzes the production of hypochlorous acid (HOCl) from hydrogen peroxide and chloride ions. This potent oxidant is essential for the microbial killing of a wide range of pathogens. Structurally, the enzyme contains a unique heme prosthetic group covalently linked to the protein backbone. While vital for pathogen clearance, the hypochlorous acid and other reactive species produced by MPO can also cause oxidative damage to host tissues. MPO-mediated oxidation is implicated in the modification of lipoproteins and the promotion of inflammatory processes in various vascular and chronic inflammatory conditions. |
