| 背景信息 | CD59 molecule (CD59 blood group) (CD59), also known as MAC-inhibitory protein (MAC-IP), membrane inhibitor of reactive lysis (MIRL), or protectin, is a glycoprotein that plays a crucial role in protecting human cells from complement-mediated lysis. It is encoded by the CD59 gene and is expressed in all organs and almost all cell types. CD59 functions by inhibiting the formation of the membrane attack complex (MAC) by binding to complement proteins C8 and C9, preventing pore formation and cell lysis. Mutations affecting the glycophosphatidylinositol (GPI) anchor that attaches CD59 to host cells can lead to diseases such as paroxysmal nocturnal hemoglobinuria. Additionally, viruses like HIV and human cytomegalovirus incorporate host cell CD59 into their viral envelopes to evade complement-mediated lysis. |
