背景信息Membrane alanyl aminopeptidase (ANPEP), also known as aminopeptidase N, is a zinc-dependent metalloprotease encoded by the ANPEP gene in humans. This enzyme is primarily located in the microvillar membrane of the small intestine and renal tubular cells, where it plays a critical role in the final digestion of peptides derived from dietary proteins. ANPEP exhibits broad substrate specificity, facilitating the processing of various peptides, including peptide hormones and neuropeptides, and is involved in immune responses by cleaving peptides associated with major histocompatibility complex class II molecules. ANPEP's dysfunction is linked to several diseases, notably B-lymphoblastic leukemia and lymphoma, as well as gastrointestinal disorders like gastroenteritis. Additionally, it serves as a receptor for certain viruses, including human coronavirus 229E, highlighting its role in viral pathogenesis. The protein's properties include a large extracellular domain that contributes to its enzymatic activity and receptor functions, which may also influence processes such as angiogenesis and tumor progression.
