| 背景信息 | Regulator of chromosome condensation 1 (RCC1) is a nuclear protein that serves as the primary guanine nucleotide exchange factor for the Ran GTPase. It promotes the exchange of GDP for GTP on Ran, a process essential for generating the Ran-GTP gradient required for mitotic spindle assembly, nucleocytoplasmic transport, and chromosome condensation. Structurally, RCC1 is characterized by a seven-bladed propeller motif and an N-terminal tail that facilitates binding to DNA and chromatin. During interphase, the protein is localized to chromatin, but it disperses into the cytoplasm during mitosis. RCC1 is a critical regulator of cell cycle progression, and its activity is vital for the initiation of mitosis and the proper processing of pre-mRNA. Mutations that disrupt RCC1 function lead to significant defects in chromatin dynamics and mitotic entry. |
