| 背景信息 | Keratin 4 (Cytokeratin-4) is a type II intermediate filament protein primarily expressed in the differentiating suprabasal cells of the oral epithelium and other non-keratinizing stratified epithelia. It functions as an obligatory heterodimer with its partner, keratin K13, forming coiled-coil structures that establish the structural framework of soft-cornified tissues. Beyond the oral cavity, it is found in the transitional epithelium of the urinary tract. Keratin 4 is essential for maintaining cellular structural integrity, mechanical stability, and epithelial barrier function. Clinically, mutations or dysregulation of Keratin 4 are associated with oral epithelial disorders and conditions such as benign familial pemphigus. Its proper expression is critical for maintaining cell-cell adhesion and the physiological integrity of mucosal surfaces. |
