| 背景信息 | Cathepsin S (CTSS) is a lysosomal cysteine protease that plays a pivotal role in protein degradation and antigen processing, particularly in the context of major histocompatibility complex (MHC) class II-mediated immune responses. It is synthesized as an inactive precursor and activated within lysosomes, where it cleaves proteins into peptides for presentation to T cells. Beyond its role in the immune system, cathepsin S is involved in extracellular matrix remodeling and has been implicated in various pathological conditions. Dysregulation of CTSS expression has been associated with several diseases, including cancer, where it can promote tumor progression by facilitating cell invasion and metastasis, and autoimmune diseases, where overactivity may lead to inappropriate immune responses. Additionally, elevated levels of cathepsin S have been linked to cardiovascular diseases due to its involvement in inflammation and tissue remodeling. |
