| 背景信息 | Hippocalcin like 1 (HPCAL1) is a neuron-specific calcium-binding protein primarily expressed in the retina and various regions of the brain, including the hippocampus, amygdala, and cerebral cortex. It belongs to the hippocalcin family and is characterized by the presence of EF-hand motifs that allow it to bind two to three calcium ions. This calcium-binding capability enables HPCAL1 to mediate several calcium-dependent processes essential for neuronal signaling. In the visual cycle, it is involved in the regulation of rhodopsin phosphorylation within retinal rod pathways.
