It is essential for conferring calcium sensitivity to actomyosin interactions, thereby regulating the contraction and relaxation of the heart. The protein features an N-terminal region that binds tropomyosin and a C-terminal domain that forms a coiled-coil with troponin I and troponin C to anchor the complex to the actin-tropomyosin filament. This structural arrangement provides stability and ensures coordinated signaling. Mutations in Cardiac Troponin T, such as those affecting the C-terminal dynamics, are well-established causes of cardiomyopathies, including hypertrophic and dilated forms, primarily by altering calcium sensitivity and filament stability. |
