As a member of the lithium-sensitive phosphatase family, it plays a key role in intracellular calcium dynamics and second-messenger metabolism. Genetic studies have linked INPP1 to complex neuropsychiatric phenotypes, particularly bipolar disorder, highlighting its involvement in mood regulation pathways. Additionally, INPP1 dysfunction is associated with developmental anomalies such as ring dermoid of the cornea, underscoring its importance in both neuronal signaling and ocular development. |
