| 背景信息 | Cadherin 15 (CDH15) is a member of the cadherin superfamily, which are calcium-dependent cell adhesion glycoproteins essential for intercellular adhesion. The protein comprises an extracellular domain with five cadherin repeats responsible for homophilic cell-cell adhesion, a transmembrane region, and a conserved cytoplasmic domain that interacts with catenins, linking to the cytoskeleton. CDH15 is predominantly expressed in myoblasts and upregulated in myotube-forming cells, playing a critical role in myogenesis by aligning myoblasts for fusion and triggering terminal muscle cell differentiation. The protein is also involved in muscle regeneration and is found in muscle satellite cells. Structurally, human CDH15 is an 814 amino acid type I transmembrane glycoprotein with a molecular weight of approximately 124 kDa. Functionally, it mediates homotypic adhesion and participates in morphogenetic processes during muscle development. Although deletion studies in mice suggest redundancy with N-cadherin, CDH15's regulation is crucial for muscle cell fusion and sarcomere formation. |
