| 背景信息 | S100 calcium binding protein A12 (S100A12) is a calcium-, zinc-, and copper-binding protein that plays a prominent role in regulating inflammatory processes and immune responses. It is primarily expressed in neutrophils and monocytes, and functions as a damage-associated molecular pattern (DAMP) molecule. S100A12 forms homodimers or hexamers and interacts with receptors like RAGE and TLR4 to activate pro-inflammatory signaling cascades. It has antimicrobial properties and is involved in neutrophil chemotaxis and mast cell activation. S100A12 also participates in intracellular calcium signaling and cytoskeletal regulation. Elevated levels of S100A12 have been associated with various inflammatory conditions, including inflammatory bowel disease, rheumatoid arthritis, and cardiovascular diseases. In particular, serum S100A12 has been linked to more extensive coronary atherosclerosis in patients with coronary artery disease, diabetes mellitus, and chronic kidney disease. |
