| 背景信息 | Surfeit 2 (SURF2) is a nucleolar protein that plays a significant role in the cellular response to nucleolar stress. It shares a bidirectional promoter with SURF1 and is expressed across a wide range of tissues. SURF2 functions by binding to free 5S ribonucleoprotein (RNP) particles, acting as a buffer that prevents unnecessary stress signaling under basal conditions. During periods of nucleolar disruption, SURF2 acts as an antagonist to MDM2 by competing for 5S RNP binding, thereby modulating the activation of the p53 tumor suppressor pathway. Its depletion increases cellular sensitivity to stress and promotes apoptosis, whereas its overexpression is frequently observed in various cancers and is associated with poor prognosis, suggesting its role in promoting cell survival under adverse conditions. |
