| 背景信息 | Proline rich 4 (PRR4) is a specialized protein primarily expressed in the lacrimal glands and secreted into human tears. It belongs to the proline-rich protein family and is a major component of the tear film, where it plays a critical role in maintaining the health and lubrication of the ocular surface. PRR4 is thought to contribute to the protective barrier of the eye, potentially through its antimicrobial properties and its ability to modulate the rheological properties of tears. Clinically, PRR4 is a significant biomarker for ocular surface diseases. Its expression is markedly downregulated in patients with dry eye syndrome, including those with Sjogren’s syndrome, and its levels correlate with tear production and film stability. Due to its high specificity to the lacrimal system, PRR4 is frequently utilized in clinical research as a sensitive indicator of lacrimal gland dysfunction and ocular surface health. |
