| 背景信息 | Regulator of G protein signaling 21 (RGS21) is a GTPase-activating protein (GAP) that accelerates the intrinsic GTPase activity of heterotrimeric G-protein alpha subunits (Gα), terminating G-protein-coupled receptor (GPCR) signaling. Predominantly expressed in taste buds, olfactory epithelium, and nasal mucosa, RGS21 regulates chemosensory pathways by modulating taste and odorant receptor signaling. Structurally, it contains a conserved RGS domain (residues 91-180) responsible for Gα interaction and a cysteine-rich region, with a molecular weight of ~24 kDa. Studies suggest RGS21 may influence bitter and sweet taste perception and olfactory signal transduction. Disease associations include potential roles in taste dysfunction and chronic rhinosinusitis due to its mucosal expression, and it is implicated in metabolic disorders like obesity and diabetes via altered chemosensory signaling pathways. |
