| 背景信息 | Mucin like 3 (MUCL3) is a membrane-bound glycoprotein primarily expressed in the mammary glands and reproductive tissues. It is characterized by a mucin domain rich in proline, threonine, and serine residues, which undergoes extensive O-linked glycosylation. This modification provides the protein with high protease resistance and significant hydration properties, typical of the mucin family. MUCL3 also contains cysteine-rich regions that may facilitate multimerization through disulfide linkages. Functionally, it is thought to contribute to the protection and restitution of the epithelial surface, potentially promoting cell migration and inhibiting apoptosis in response to tissue injury. While MUCL3 shares structural and functional parallels with other mucins like MUC3 and MUC13, there are currently no well-established human diseases directly linked to its mutation or dysregulation. Its primary role remains centered on maintaining the integrity and hydration of specialized epithelial barriers. |
