It plays a key role in protein trafficking or cellular structure distribution, is essential for spermatozoon maturation, fertility, and cytoplasmic droplet removal, and is involved in pathways like Class I MHC antigen processing, innate immunity, ovarian cancer proliferation via SMO-hedgehog signaling suppression, and antimicrobial peptide regulation. Located on chromosome 10, HERC4 exhibits ligase and ubiquitin-transferase activities with paralog HERC3. |
