背景信息Aldo-keto reductase family 7 like (gene/pseudogene) (AKR7L) is an enzyme belonging to the aldo-keto reductase superfamily that functions as an NADPH-dependent oxidoreductase. It is primarily involved in cellular detoxification processes, specifically targeting reactive aldehydes. A key physiological role of AKR7L is the reduction of the dialdehyde protein-binding form of aflatoxin B1 (AFB1) into the non-toxic AFB1 dialcohol. This enzymatic activity provides critical protection to liver tissue by preventing the formation of harmful protein adducts associated with aflatoxin exposure. The gene is located within a cluster of aldo-keto reductase genes on chromosome 1. Its functional role in metabolic detoxification and hepatoprotection is well-documented within the aldo-keto reductase family.
