| 背景信息 | Neural EGFL like 1 (NELL1) is a secreted protein characterized by its epidermal growth factor (EGF)-like repeats, playing a pivotal role in cellular growth and differentiation, particularly in osteogenesis. Functionally, NELL1 interacts with integrin β1, activating the Wnt/β-catenin signaling pathway, which promotes osteoblast differentiation and inhibits osteoclast activity. NELL1 is crucial for skeletal ossification, as its overexpression can lead to craniosynostosis, a condition where skull bones fuse prematurely, while its deficiency is linked to age-related osteoporosis, marked by decreased bone density and increased fragility. Beyond skeletal implications, NELL1 has been identified as a target antigen in membranous nephropathy (MN). |
