| 背景信息 | TNF receptor superfamily member 13C (TNFRSF13C), also known as BAFF receptor (BAFF-R), is a membrane protein encoded by the TNFRSF13C gene in humans. It is a type III transmembrane protein containing a single extracellular cysteine-rich domain that specifically binds to BAFF, an essential factor for B cell maturation and survival. TNFRSF13C is expressed on all B cells except plasma cells and promotes the survival of mature B cells and B cell responses. The protein has a calculated molecular weight of 8.6 kDa but migrates as 17-22 kDa due to glycosylation. Overexpression of BAFF in mice results in mature B-cell hyperplasia and symptoms of systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE). Some SLE patients have increased levels of BAFF in serum, suggesting that abnormally high levels of BAFF may contribute to the pathogenesis of autoimmune diseases by enhancing the survival of autoreactive B cells. |
