| 背景信息 | ST6 N-acetylgalactosaminide alpha-2,6-sialyltransferase 5 (ST6GALNAC5) is a Golgi type II transmembrane glycosyltransferase enzyme consisting of 316 amino acids with a molecular mass of approximately 36.4 kDa. It catalyzes the transfer of sialic acid to cell surface proteins and is specifically involved in the biosynthesis of ganglioside GD1α from GM1b, predominantly expressed in brain tissue. ST6GALNAC5 modulates cell-cell interactions and influences receptor tyrosine kinases via membrane microdomain formation. Functionally, it plays a role in cell junction regulation, differentiation, and metastasis, particularly in prostate and breast cancers. Overexpression of ST6GALNAC5 promotes cancer cell invasion and proliferation by activating pathways such as MAPK/ERK1/2. Notably, it facilitates breast cancer brain metastasis by enabling cancer cells to cross the blood-brain barrier, while its role may vary depending on cancer context, sometimes inhibiting glioma invasiveness. |
