These structural features, along with predicted coiled-coil regions, suggest a primary role in protein-protein interactions and subcellular scaffolding. FSD1L is expressed in various tissues and has been observed in the otic vesicle during development in model organisms, implying a role in sensory organ morphogenesis. Clinically, FSD1L is associated with congenital hydrocephalus 1. Additionally, epigenetic studies have linked DNA methylation at the FSD1L locus to maternal glycemia, suggesting potential involvement in metabolic or developmental programming during pregnancy. |
