背景信息Chromosome 8 open reading frame 33 (C8orf33), also known as UPF0488, is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 8. While its precise physiological role remains under investigation, it is associated with G protein-coupled receptor signaling, neuroactive ligand-receptor interaction, calcium signaling, and the regulation of the actin cytoskeleton. The protein exhibits low-to-moderate expression across most human tissues, with notable localization in the nucleus and cytoplasm. C8orf33 has been observed to interact with various substances, including methotrexate and vitamin E, and its expression levels are sensitive to lithium exposure. In the context of oncology, C8orf33 is significantly downregulated in hepatocellular carcinoma, where its expression levels correlate with tumor grade and patient survival. This association positions the protein as a potential prognostic biomarker for distinguishing poorly differentiated from well-differentiated tumors.
