| 背景信息 | Cathepsin F (CTSF) is a lysosomal cysteine protease belonging to the papain family, playing a crucial role in the lysosomal proteolytic system. It is encoded by the CTSF gene, which maps to chromosome 11q13 and is ubiquitously expressed. The protein contains a 19-residue signal peptide and a unique proregion with a cystatin-like domain, which is predicted to have inhibitory activity. CTSF mutations have been identified as a cause of Type B Kufs disease, an adult-onset neuronal ceroid lipofuscinosis characterized by dementia and motor features. CTSF is also involved in processing the invariant chain associated with the major histocompatibility complex (MHC) class II, suggesting its role in immune regulation. |
