It forms an obligate heterodimer with CPSF100 and associates with symplekin to execute the 3'-end cleavage of pre-mRNAs and histone pre-mRNAs, a critical step in transcript maturation and transcription termination. The enzyme's active site coordinates zinc ions essential for its RNA endonuclease activity. Given its fundamental role in mRNA processing and cell viability, CPSF73 is investigated as a potential therapeutic target in various cancers where its inhibition can disrupt tumor cell proliferation. |
