| 背景信息 | Carbonic anhydrase 14 (CA14) is a membrane-associated enzyme encoded by the CA14 gene, belonging to the carbonic anhydrase family of zinc metalloenzymes. These enzymes catalyze the reversible hydration of carbon dioxide into bicarbonate and hydrogen ions, playing key roles in maintaining acid-base balance, respiration, and fluid secretion. CA14 is predicted to be a type I transmembrane protein and shares structural similarities with CA XII but exhibits distinct tissue-specific expression patterns, suggesting unique physiological roles. It is involved in processes such as cerebrospinal fluid formation, calcification, and pH regulation across tissues. The enzyme’s activity depends on a zinc ion at its active site, which facilitates efficient carbon dioxide conversion.
