| 背景信息 | Crystallin lambda 1 (CRYL1) is an NAD(H)-dependent enzyme that catalyzes the dehydrogenation of L-gulonate to dehydro-L-gulonate in the uronate cycle, an alternative glucose metabolic pathway responsible for approximately 5% of daily glucose catabolism. The protein is widely expressed in various tissues, including the liver, kidney, and brain, and exhibits notable thermal stability, as assessed by its degradation rate under accelerated thermal conditions. While CRYL1 is structurally related to other crystallins, its primary function in humans is metabolic rather than structural, unlike its rabbit homolog, which may play a role in lens transparency. Disease associations for CRYL1 include its altered expression in cancers: lower CRYL1 levels are linked to larger tumor size, higher tumor stage, and poorer prognosis in liver cancer, suggesting a tumor suppressor role. |
