| 背景信息 | The SNCA gene provides instructions for making the alpha-synuclein protein, which is abundant in the brain and plays an important role in normal brain function. Alpha-synuclein is found mainly at the tips of nerve cells in specialized structures called presynaptic terminals, where it helps regulate the release of chemical messengers called neurotransmitters. Genetic variations in the SNCA gene have been linked to several neurodegenerative disorders, including Parkinson's disease, Lewy body dementia, and multiple system atrophy. Certain mutations in SNCA can lead to the abnormal accumulation and aggregation of alpha-synuclein protein, which is a hallmark of these diseases. The overproduction of alpha-synuclein due to SNCA gene duplications or triplications has also been associated with autosomal dominant forms of Parkinson's disease. Overall, the SNCA gene and its product alpha-synuclein are considered central to the pathogenesis of various neurodegenerative disorders. |
