| 背景信息 | Spermatogenesis associated 18 (SPATA18) is a p53-inducible protein that serves as a master regulator of mitochondrial quality control. It mediates the degradation of damaged mitochondrial proteins through a process known as MALM (mitochondrial protein catabolic process). SPATA18 promotes the formation of lysosome-like organelles within mitochondria and facilitates the translocation of lysosomal hydrolases to the mitochondrial matrix by interacting with BNIP3 and BNIP3L at the outer mitochondrial membrane. It also binds cardiolipin, potentially forming molecular condensates to manage cardiolipin metabolism. The expression of SPATA18 is directly activated by p53 in response to cellular stress, ensuring the removal of dysfunctional mitochondrial components to maintain cellular integrity. |
