| 背景信息 | Cornulin (CRNN) is a 495-amino acid, squamous epithelial tissue-specific protein encoded by the CRNN gene located at chromosome 1q21.3, within the epidermal differentiation complex region. Structurally, Cornulin belongs to the "fused gene" family and contains two EF-hand calcium-binding domains at its N-terminus and two glutamine- and threonine-rich 60-amino acid repeats at its C-terminus, features that are important for its role in calcium signaling and epidermal differentiation. Cornulin is involved in the mucosal and epithelial immune response, acts as a survival factor for squamous epithelial cells, and helps regulate cell proliferation by inducing G1 cell cycle arrest. Disease associations include its downregulation in eczema and upregulation in psoriasis, as well as links to esophageal cancer and squamous cell carcinoma, where altered Cornulin expression correlates with enhanced metastasis and poorer survival outcomes. |
